A recipe for success

~ A bitch'n "can do" concoction that begins with giant servings of a loving husband, heaping plates full of healthy food, hours of strengthening yoga, tons & tons of family & friends -- all eager to roll up their sleeves and combine their strengths!

The doctor says Amy is young, strong and HAS a chance to reverse this. "Hopefully, through chemo therapy, we can get it to go into remission."

  • Chemo 2 times (next Wednesday, at 9:30 - it lasts 4 hours or more), at 3 week intervals. Before the third treatment, the lymph nodes are examined for improvement. If there is none, they type of chemo drugs may be changed.

  • There are about 6-7 different drugs that can be tried. Most potent combination (Carpal platinum,Taxol and Avastin) - it can make a person feel week for a day or so, and there will be hair loss (likely by the second treatment).

  • If different combinations of chemo are not effective, radiation is not out of the question. It is, however, potentially less effective.

  • A referral to the Cancer Care Alliance is being given for a second opinion on the data gathered - they would not normally be doing any new tests. The doctor seemed pretty certain there were not a lot of differences of opinion on the course of action we should take.

  • Going in for precautionary MRI this week, before treatment starts, on the rare possibility that there may be effects to the brain. The doctor doesn't think this is the case, but he wants to be sure.

  • There are clinical studies that Amy may be able to be a part of. However, to do these they may be reluctant to take her, if she has started this other treatment already. This needs to be explored right away.
